Now for GP3 with Dams

28-01-16

So the news is out! I’m massively proud to sign for DAMS for my first season in the GP3 Series.

Not only is GP3 incredibly competitive, but for the first time in my career I’m going to be racing in front of the Formula 1 teams at Grand Prix events, and it’ll be with one of the top teams in racing – every young driver knows what DAMS are about and what they have achieved.

They’re new to GP3, but the series is introducing a new car this season so everyone starts equal. Anyway, look at their success in GP2, and also what happened the first time they did Formula Renault 3.5 in 2012 – they put it on pole for their first race. I’m massively looking forward to the season and I’m sure we’ll be at the front.

‘I also tested Formula Renault 3.5 and Formula 3 cars over the winter. Coming from two seasons in Formula Renault 2.0 I felt that while F3 is very competitive, it was too small a step driving-wise.’

I got my first taste of DAMS at the Abu Dhabi GP3 test at the end of last season. Status Grand Prix, whose entry DAMS have taken over, were running the cars but it was with DAMS engineers and the team boss, Francois Sicard, and they had their own ideas they wanted to try. We weren’t basing our decision on the performance level, because all the other teams had been running the cars for three years and had just done a race weekend there. The focus was more on how we worked with the team, and I was really happy on how they interacted with the drivers.
