A strong weekend in Hungary

19-06-17

If the last meeting at Pau was when we started to turn the season around, then a 2nd place finish in Race One felt like another step forward.

First qualifying was wet with a drying track and I was able to qualify 3rd, which became 2nd when one of the other drivers had to serve a grid penalty from a previous race. I was 4th and 5th on-track in Qualifying 2 but that became fifth and seventh as I lost my fastest lap for exceeding track limits. It was a real shame as I did the quickest sector one and I just put one quarter of a wheel off at Turn One. Rules are rules though, so no complaints

As everyone knows, it's not easy to overtake at Hungary... And so it proved – my starts from 2nd, 5th and 7th gave me 2nd, 4th and 7th! So it was certainly a shame that I got pinged for track limits. Still, it's great to be back in a position where we are scoring points in each race. From there, we can build to wins.

'The best thing is that I'm really happy with the car balance and how we're working together as a team.'

Next up, we're at the ultra high speed Norisring circuit in Germany in two weeks' time. It's a key one for Mercedes and so it's a key one for me and Hitech Racing. Hopefully I'll be right up at the sharp end.
