Jake Hughes unveiled as ROKiT Venturi Racing Reserve Driver

31-12-20

MB Partners are thrilled to announce that Jake Hughes has joined ROKiT Venturi Racing as Official Reserve Driver for Season 7 of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship.

The news sees Jake continue his progress up the motorsport ladder and he joins the team after an impressive 2020 campaign, where the 26-year-old claimed two victories and four podiums in FIA Formula 3 with HWA RACELAB - alongside making his debut in FIA Formula 2 for the Sochi round.

After making his single-seater debut in 2012, Jake was crowned 2013 British F4 Champion, taking four wins and 10 podiums, before finishing as the runner-up in Formula Renault 2.0 Alps in 2015 with three wins and seven podiums.

This success allowed the Briton to graduate to Formula 3 level in 2016, contesting the GP3 Series, European Formula 3 and FIA Formula 3 until 2020, where he took seven wins and 23 podiums across all three categories.

Jake is no stranger to the world of Formula E and since Season 5, Jake has participated in the fully-electric series’ annual Marrakesh Rookie Test, representing NIO 333 and most recently, the Mercedes-EQ Formula E Team.

Jake’s role with ROKiT Venturi will see him work alongside the team across the season and remain on-hand to deputise if required.

Commenting on the announcement, Jake is excited to begin his new role and looks forward to working with the team.

”I’m incredibly excited to join ROKiT Venturi Racing as the team’s Reserve Driver. I want to say a big thank you to Susie [Wolff] and the team for trusting me with this opportunity. I’ve driven Formula E cars in the past, most recently with Mercedes, so I feel ready to do my job.

I’m looking forward to supporting Edo and Norman this season and I’m excited to help the team make the car as fast as possible while, of course, learning on the way. Formula E is an incredibly exciting championship, and it feels fantastic to be back at a race track.”

Susie Wolff, ROKiT Venturi Racing Team Principal, is delighted to welcome Jake to the team.

”The role of the Reserve Driver is crucial in Formula E especially during these challenging times with the global pandemic. Jake has done more than prove his talent and natural ability on the junior single-seater ladder and we’re delighted to welcome him to ROKiT Venturi Racing.”

Mark Blundell, CEO of MB Partners, sees this as a great opportunity for Jake

“This news is fantastic for Jake and thoroughly deserved after an impressive single seater career to date. His talent and work ethic will be a great asset to ROKiT Venturi Racing and I’m sure he will play a vital role in the team’s operation in 2021.”
