Over the winter Jake tested several different cars with various teams and has chosen GP3 as the next logical stepping stone in his career due to the extremely competitive nature of the series.
Jake will be racing with DAMS, the Ruaudin based team run by François Sicard. DAMS enter the GP3 series for the first time this season although they bring with them a fantastic track record of successes spanning 25 years including 3 International F3000 titles, 1 Formula Renault V6 title, 2 A1GP World Champion titles, 1 GP2 SeriesTeams Championship, 2 GP2 Series Drivers titles to name a few.
For this reason, DAMS is recognised as one of the most successful and prestigious racing teams in Europe.
The GP3 Series has been designed with five guiding principles: performance, cost control, entertainment, safety and preparation. These values create the perfect training ground for young drivers providing them with a chance to develop their driving skills and jump to the next step: GP2 and then Formula 1, a strategy proven by inaugural Champion Esteban Gutierrez, his successor Valtteri Bottas and Danii Kvyat who have all secured Formula 1 drives.
Each car uses the same chassis, engine and tyre suppliers, with over 400HP engines, and no hidden gadgets like traction control or power steering. The driver have to showcase their skills both in speed and in managing tyres.
'With two races per weekend, reverse grids and identical cars, driver ability is crucial in the battle to become champion.'
All GP3 events follow the Formula One Calendar giving drivers firsthand experience of racing in the Grand Prix environment and allowing the series to benefit from close ties to the FIA. FOM's unparalleled expertise in broadcasting and marketing ensures that it has truly global reach and appeal.
